The serpentine belt drives your alternator, power steering, A/C, and often the water pump. When it breaks, all of that stops at once and the engine overheats within minutes. Belts crack and glaze with age; tensioners lose spring tension. We replace the belt and check the tensioner and idler pulleys so you don't do this twice.

How long does a serpentine belt last?
Modern EPDM belts last 60,000–100,000 miles but don't show cracks the way old ones did. A belt wear gauge tells the story. Replace it by 90,000 miles regardless.
Is the timing belt the same thing?
No. The serpentine belt is on the outside and easy. The timing belt is inside the engine and is a much bigger job — see our timing belt page.
